Catch of the Day: We Were Evergreen
Guaranteed to bring sonic warmth to even the most wintered of living rooms, French trio We Were Evergreen's brand of overtly quirky poptronica led The Guardian to label them 'maddeningly pleasant and obscenely nice' in 2012, and it's easy to see why. Brandishing an arsenal of instruments including, but not limited to, ukulele, toy piano, banjo, glockenspiel, kazoo, and most notably, llama nails, there was always a danger that an amalgam of such cheerful and chirpy instruments would leave a sickly-sweet taste in the mouth, but the three-piece's playful sound is brimming with vocal harmonies and infectious melodies that are just too good to pass up. The poptronica ensemble have a Kickstarter-funded debut album in the works, and if their current collection of EPs and singles is anything to go by, it's going to be a lot of fun.
