The Cathars - Delusion's Daze

With spring sprung and summer on the way there's nothing like kicking back to a bit of Impala flavoured reverb-rich rock, and the latest single from fresh-faced Brisbane four-piece The Cathars hits the spot perfectly. Rife with overdriven pysch-rock riffs, warm punchy bass, and dripping with lysergic vocal refrains, 'Delusion's Daze' continues the very promising trend of acid-washed rock set by the band's previous releases.

One To Watch: Tundra

Brisbane boys Tundra offer up a laid-back sound that's both awash with glittering surf-pop guitar, Morrisey-esque vocal refrains and harmonies in songs like Puppet Master, and brimming with energetic jangly guitar passages and choruses that lend a Two Door Cinema Club sans-synth quality to their work in tunes like Glow (below). With only a handful of singles available on their Bandcamp, only time will tell what's in store for the guitar-centric four-piece, but they're certainly one to keep your eyes  peeled for.

Catch of the Day: Millions

Occupying a sonic territory somewhere between Dr Dog, Yellow Ostrich, Bombay Bicycle Club, and Peace, Brisbane quartet Millions forge a brand of guitar-centric, harmony-peppered pop-rock that can be both doleful in songs like Cruel, off of their 2012 EP by the same name, and energetic riff-tastic rock, showcased in the likes of Champagne from latest EP offering Nine Lives, Six Degrees. It's bands like Millions - whos stagenames include the likes of 'Dominc Had a daddy' and 'Crampy Spliff' - that reassure us that audacious anti-electronica indie rock is still alive and well.

Catch of the Day: Last Dinosaurs

Borrowing their name from a song by Japanese group The Pillows, Brisbane three-piece Last Dinosaurs specialise in an energised mix of Two Door-inspired guitar riffs and brisk-bass stylings that make for a blend of frolicking pop and fast-paced indie rock. The guitar-work is often math-rock-esque in songs such as Time & Place and Honolulu, and when combined with the vibrant, catchy vocals of frontman Sean Caksey, is arresting and addictive in its composition, and more than a little difficult to get out of you head. The Australian trio's 2012 debut LP In A Million Years is available now from their Website and we hope they keep their brand of effervescent indie rock coming.
