Catch of the Day: PAPA

Forging folk-flavoured rock in a similarly tender vein to The National, Los Angeles duo PAPA have been described by fans as 'satisfying both the soul and the soul of the shoe', and it's a very appealing fondness to adopt when presented with the countryfied, but not calcified, sounds present in the disconsolate nostalgia of Tender Madness 'If you're happy now/I don't give a shit', or the spirited stoicism of Young Rut, in which singer Darren Weiss expresses that oh-so Pistol-ian sentiment that 'I don't know what I want', without the benefit of Vicious' ability to 'know how to get it'. The LA group's debut offering Tender Madness, released on Universal Island Records,  is available now and is most definitely worth a hearty listen.
